Public Notices

With the Federal Election finally over, congratulations to Mark Coulton for being convincingly re-elected as the member for Parkes.   At the time of writing this column it was still unclear if Scott Morrison and the Coalition have a majority in the House of Representatives, or what the makeup of the Senate would be.   We hope our re-elected local member will continue efforts to secure more Federal Funding for Councils like ours, and work towards a simple application process for Household Support Funding.

A good crowd was enjoying the first day of the Nyngan Show with all the different sections in the Wye Arts and Crafts Pavilion again making this area a magnificent feature of our local Show.   It is a shame all these exhibits, particularly from our local schools, only stay up for two days.   Perhaps some of these exhibits with respective Championship Ribbons could be displayed in one of the shop windows in the main street.   The Speed Shear and Rodeo were also major features of the first day as were the ring events.   Congratulations and thank you to all Committee Members and Stewards of the Show who each year roll up their sleeves to make sure their sections are well presented.   Also thank you to all members of Bogan Shire Council involved who have made sure the grounds were in top condition which has not been easy in the drought.   We again extend sincere sympathy to the Elder Family with Chris being sadly missed at the Show.   A special shield is being presented to the Speed Shear Champion and Life Membership a fitting tribute to his memory.

It is good to know water is now flowing into our 700 megalitre emergency water storage just south of Nyngan.   This storage should be filled next month from water sourced from water brokers in the Macquarie Valley and will provide some security of supply for Nyngan and Cobar towns into next year if inflows into Burrendong Dam do not occur.   The water flows into our Upper Weir Pool and is pumped into the storage, and can then be siphoned back into the Weir Pool to be pumped to Cobar or Nyngan Treatment Plants.

We had a visit last week from Adam Marshall MP, who is the new State Minister for Agriculture and Western NSW.   The Western NSW portfolio has been reactivated by the State Government to assist with any large regional projects, the main one being water supply related issues as the drought continues.   We made Adam very aware of some local issues including urgent exploration of some source of underground water east of Nyngan, Regional Road Funding from the Government, train speeds through town and the $25,000 extra money we have to fund the sudden increase in Emergency Services Levy.
