Public Notices

As of Sunday 5 April there were 40 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the Western NSW Local Health District, however none reported in the Bogan Shire. Our Bogan Shire Medical Centre remains fully operational with Doctors onsite. The front door is locked to comply with Federal guidance to protect the health of patients and staff. Please phone the practice on 68321305 for an appointment, and on arrival you will need to phone again to confirm your identity prior to entry. The media continue to stress the message from medical authorities about procedures to minimise the spread of the Virus. By adherence to these measures we give our community the best possible chance to avoid any confirmed cases. Easter and the school holidays will be very different this year with no church services, family visits or travelling, so let’s make sure the phone calls and other means of keeping in touch keep regularly occurring.

The Managers of our two supermarkets have assured me that any members of our community, particularly elderly members that may have difficulties getting to the supermarket, can ring them, place their order and have it delivered with payment on delivery. They particularly urge our elderly citizens to take advantage of this kind offer.

Our thoughts are with local World Champion rower Jack Hargreaves who was on his way to the Tokyo Olympics to represent Australia in the Men’s Fours prior to the postponement of the games. Proud Mum Jenny tells me the Australian rowing team qualified ten boats for the Olympics 2020 and this remains in place for the 2021 games, so no qualification process again needed. Jack will continue to train on his own until October when training centres will re-open.

Council received a couple of good suggestions at our last meeting and agreed to progress them further. David Motley suggested we look to develop a relationship with the community of Dural so that residents, businesses, schools and their general community could provide assistance and support to our community, particularly in times of drought. Angie White recommended we look at plans for a Blue Tree Project. The project aims to make people aware that it is OK to be blue some days and also forms as a remembrance for those who have tragically taken their own lives. We need to find a tree in the main street that can be painted blue, place a chain under or near it and have a plaque attached to explain the Blue Tree. This project has apparently gained a lot of momentum in Australia.

The local Government elections, scheduled for September this year, have been postponed for twelve months so your local Councillors will remain your representatives until September 2021. Councils like ours will need to elect their Mayors and Deputy Mayors in September.

Great to experience more good rains and have Daylight Savings over!

Apparently the Nyngan Observer will not be published for some weeks, so stay safe, stay well and look after yourselves.
