DISABILITY ACCESS AND INCLUSION - COMMUNITY SURVEY
Council is updating its Disability Inclusion Action Plan and is liaising with the community on how to improve the accessibility of its services, facilities, and activities to create a more inclusive and accessible environment.
Council, along with other organisations, has an obligation to make its facilities and services accessible. Under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992, discrimination on the basis of disability is unlawful.
If you are someone with a disability or a carer, family member, friend of a person with a disability, or a disability service provider we are keen to hear from you on how we can better support people with a disability.
You can have your say by completing the survey via the link on the Bogan Shire Council website and on Facebook. This survey will close on Friday 27 October 2023.
NYNGAN SHOW DAY 2024 – COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Council is required to make formal application to the Minister for Industrial Relations for the declaration of a local public holiday for Show Day which falls on Monday 6 May 2024.
Legislation makes provision for the declaration of local event days as an alternative to local public holidays. Based on information provided by NSW Industrial Relations the potential impacts on business and the community for a public holiday as opposed to a local event day in a designated Local Government area are:-
- Banks are required to close unless they hold specific approval to remain open.
- Shops are free to open without restriction.
- All employees who work in the designated area are entitled to be absent from work.
- Those employees who work may have an entitlement to penalty rates.
Local Event Day
- Banks and shops are free to open without restriction.
- Entitlements to paid time off work or penalty rates for employees will only arise where they have been agreed at a workplace level.
Council’s position in the past has been that a public holiday is the most appropriate option for the Nyngan Show Day as the intent behind the holiday is to encourage and enable as many people as possible to participate in the Show.
Council invites members of the public and local businesses to provide input into this decision. Council will consider any submissions at its meeting to be held on Thursday 26 October 2023 before making application to the Minister.
Comments must be received by COB, Thursday 26, October 2023 and should be addressed to:

BOGAN SHIRE MEDICAL CENTRE
If you are a current patient of the Bogan Shire Medical Centre and have one or more chronic diseases, you are eligible for a Care Plan under our Healthy Living program. A care plan is a way for our doctors and nurses to monitor and maintain your health, providing the best patient care. With a Care Plan you can access multiple Enhanced Primary Care plans (EPC) to see Medicare-subsidised allied health professionals such as podiatrists, physiotherapists and diabetes educators.
We offer health assessments for patients aged 45-49, 75+ and ATSI. A health assessment is conducted by one of our nursing staff, who looks at a patient's health, physical, psychological and social function and is then able to help monitor, maintain and improve your overall health.
For more information or to book your Care Plan or Health Assessment appointment, please phone the Bogan Shire medical Centre on 6832 1305.
