Congratulations to the Duck Creek Picnic Races Committee, volunteers and all the sponsors once again on the outstanding effort to host the biggest Duck Creek Races to date. The community certainly rallied behind the fun and games of the Duck Creek Week around town in the lead up to the Saturday Race event. The event saw a record-breaking crowd, with over 5700 tickets sold, definitely a cause for celebration. The Committee can now enjoy some down time before next year’s organising.
The General Manager Derek Francis, Manager Community Services Haylee Martin and I attended a collaborative Country Heartline Drought Resilience Implementation Project Workshop on Friday 11th July 2025 at Warren Shire Council. The Workshop included discussion with other project members from the Warren and Coonamble Shire Councils. This was the first meeting for the project which discussed the background of the project plan and strategic overviews; delivery framework; procurement planning and financial planning; branding, concept and marketing direction; website and digital platforms; itineraries and township experiences; farm and agritourism legacy programs, communications, stakeholder engagement and ministerial reporting. The next meeting will be to to recap key decisions, assigning immediate actions, timelines and final thoughts.
On Saturday 12th July Council hosted the opening of the Nyngan Fire Station Museum, which houses our fully restored 1924 Garford Fire Engine. It was an honour to have Keith White’s daughter, Jane White, perform the official opening of the museum, along with community members and their families associated with the history of the Fire Station and the Garford Engine. Fifteen members of the Tamworth Classic Fire Engine Club travelled to Nyngan for the event, these gentlemen are part of the Garford Fire Engine restoration team. The average age of these members is around 70 years of age; they meet daily at a shed at Tamworth showground and carry out restoration work on various models of old fire engines. The work they do is outstanding, and it was great to have them travel to Nyngan for the event and to also acknowledge their work on the restoration project of the Garford.
