Hoskin Street Subdivision was resolved at the February Council Meeting to progress to the tender process for the Hoskins Street Residential Subdivision on Council owned land. This process also includes Council lodging a DA for the works to be undertaken. Once the tender process is finalised, the commencement of the roads and utilities can begin, with this project being funded through a NSW Government Resources for Regions Grant. In addition, a biodiversity assessment report has been completed. The Concept Plan of the residential subdivision was tabled at the February Council meeting with a total of 32 blocks, 27 of these blocks in the Stage 1 plan. This is a very welcome project with the shortage of housing and vacant residential land in Nyngan an ongoing concern. Once the tender process is complete and works are underway, processes for the purchase of blocks of land will be made known when the timeframes for release of land are determined.

Roadworks and maintenance being done throughout the Shire include, Buckiinguy Road rehab 2kms, Re-sheeting of Colane Road 4km, Cockies Road 5km, Murrawombie Road 3km and 2kms of Booramugga Road. In town the footpath is being replaced in Oxley and Mudal Streets. Improvement and preparation work has also commenced at Hermidale Showground for the Gymkhana held on Easter Sunday.

The Nyngan MPS (Multi-Purpose Service) meeting was held last week. We are seeing some major improvements in the Nursing situation with all aged care residents that had been cared for in neighbouring towns facilities, now having been able to return to Nyngan MPS. One more emergency care bed has also been opened and it appears more nurses will become available over the next few months. I would like to thank Western NSW LHD, Jenny Griffiths and staff for their collaboration to get to this positive outcome. We look forward to further updates on the ongoing progress of the MPS.

Myself and General Manager Derek Francis, will be attending the Alliance of Western Councils meeting in Dubbo on Friday 15th March 2024. This will be the first meeting back for 2024.

I will be attending the Country Mayors Meeting in Sydney on Friday 22nd March 2024.This will also be the first meeting for 2024 at Parliament House. The topic for the meeting will be ‘Law & Order’ which will no doubt attract some major speakers, as it seems to be a major issue of many States throughout Australia.

Mayor Glen Neill
