I would like to begin this week’s column with recognition of the opening of the restored Girilambone Railway Station, held last Saturday 12th April 2025. The restoration of the Girilambone Railway Station was part of the NSW Governments Regional Infrastructure
Grants Program. There was a great turn out on the day, so great to see our small villages thriving. The restoration took about 6 years to complete with the possibility of funding to repaint the 900 series DEB train Carriages. Council provided a feedback ideas box on the day for future suggestions for the potential uses of the facility. The Rural Fire Service for Girilambone also held a medal ceremony during the opening where they honoured 8 local members, Karl Bright, Gunther Greilinger, Fran Greilinger, Trevor Donnelly, Greg Hicks and Bill Morely who has been in service for more than 50 years. Also present on the day was a former station master who served at the Girilambone Station in 1965. Damien Mesic was also at the opening and worked at the station in the late 1970’s as an assistant station master.
Bogan Shire Medical Centre can also now provide cortisone injections of shoulder bursa for patients with referrals. The Bogan Shire Medical Centre Sonographer is hoping to be able to offer the procedure for other body parts in the near future, with Bogan Shire committed to advancing ultrasound services to our community to limit travel and stress for our patients. For a full of list of currently offered referral ultrasound services please contact the Bogan Shire Medical Centre, it could save you the travel.
Road works that are taking place throughout the Shire this fortnight include resheeting on Currans Road in Hermidale, resheeting of Tubbavilla Rd, commencement of resheeting a section of Monkey Bridge Road, grading of Murrawombie Road, grading of Pangee Road, grading of Cockies Road, and continuing construction of the footpath on Wambiana Street.
Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Easter long weekend, just a reminder of a few things happening throughout the Shire for the school holidays. Hermidale will hold its annual Easter Sunday Gymkhana, it’s always a great family fun day out, starting off with horse events in the morning and family friendly events like boot toss, egg and spoon race and many more things starting around midday. The Committee have been working hard to get the grounds in tip top shape for the day. If you get the chance, pop out and support this event. StormCo are in Nyngan for the first week of the school holidays, providing activities and the Bogan Shire Youth Centre will also have activities during the holidays. StormCo held their 20th year celebration at O’Reilly Park on Sunday, and I was honoured to be asked to come along for the cake cutting. StormCo have been a great asset to our school holiday activities for some time now and it’s great to see them return year after year to provide fun and entertainment for the children of Bogan Shire.
