Public Notices

The annual Nyngan Show took place over Sunday 25th and Monday 26th of May 2025. The rain held out for most of it but was also a much-welcomed sight. From all reports it was well attended with the quick shear always a draw card. It is always great to see the Shires talent on display in the pavilion, and this year certainly didn’t disappoint. There was a number of local stall holders as well as visiting stall holders to browse. Congratulations to the Nyngan Show Committee on another successful show, and to all the other volunteers who helped to get the show running.

At the Council Meeting on Thursday 22 May 2025, a Biosecurity Report was provided to council with information on Prickly Pear Weed within the Bogan Shire. Council is following up avenues of funding and awareness campaigns, along with working collaboratively with Railway, LLS and landholders to bring it under control. There are several different species of Prickly Pear identified throughout the LGA that require chemical and biocontrol methods to treat but given the large number of species and limited access, not all will be able to receive treatment. The biocontrol method makes a long-term impact and is environmentally friendly and cost effective especially for inaccessible areas. The continual monitoring of roadside, water course, rail corridor, sale yards, crown land and private property inspections, along with weed and mapping high risk areas, will be the most beneficial for the weed action plan and effective control of the Prickly Pear.

Management of Pest Bird Species was also a report presented to the Council meeting. The Indian Myna Bird is listed as an invasive species which were originally introduced for insect pest control. The Indian Myna Bird has adapted to a wide range of environments and their opportunistic behaviour is creating many issues including observations of them evicting, injuring or killing native birds and small mammal’s and also spreading diseases. Council resolved to purchase Indian Myna Bird Traps, including loaning out of traps for temporary use. Council also resolved to apply for grant funding to promote community participation in management of Myna Bird populations within the Bogan Shire.

Following a report from the Director of Infrastructure Services at the May Council Meeting, Council resolved that the Nyngan Emergency Bore pipeline should be a 225mm diameter pipe.

Road works continue throughout the Shire, including resheeting of Tubbavilla Road, resheeting a section of Monkey Bridge Road, grading of Pangee Road, grading of Booroomugga Road; in addition to undertaking tree trimming on Mitchell Highway (north) and Barrier Highway. The construction of a footpath on Moonagee Street is also continuing.
