Last month, Deputy Captain of Nyngan Fire and Rescue NSW Aaron Bennett ran in the 2025 City2Surf in support of two incredibly important causes – the Burns Unit and Sydney Children's Hospital. As Deputy Captain of Nyngan Fire + Rescue NSW and a part of our Nyngan fire brigade Aaron sought donations throughout the community. In Aarons words “I’ve seen firsthand the impact burn injuries can have – not just physically, but emotionally, especially for young children and their families. The care provided by the Sydney Children's Hospital and their dedicated Burns Unit team is nothing short of lifesaving, and it’s a cause I’m passionate about supporting”. He swapped his fire gear for running shoes and ran 14km for his two chosen charities with his team of over 60 fire fighters and together they managed to raise over $150,000. Every dollar raised will help support vital medical treatment and rehabilitation for these children and their families.
At the August Council Meeting, a report was presented to Council regarding Lighting at the Nyngan Aerodrome. The Nyngan Aerodrome Pilot Activated Lighting system (PAL), ceased functioning due to failure in the system about four years ago. Council has been using battery operated flares on the occasion when night landings are required, which has been on average as around 9 times per year. In 2024, Council applied for funding under the Federal Governments Remote Airstrip Upgrade Grant towards the replacement of the PAL. Council has been successful in gaining a grant toward the project, but still requires over $300,000 to install new lights.
Some of you may have seen the Hoskin Street subdivision earthworks have commenced and progression seems to be going well with soon to be around 30 new housing blocks available to purchase, which is fantastic news with the housing and accommodation storage.
NAIDOC Week will begin next week starting with the opening ceremony at Winangali Walk at 10am, Monday 8th September. The community is encouraged to join the celebrations and this year’s theme is “The Next Generation: Strength Vision & Legacy”. We hope the Nyngan Aboriginal Land Council enjoys the week of celebrating culture and recognition.
The Reserve Grade Nyngan Senior Rugby League side has made the Western Premier Grand Final to be held in Dubbo this Sunday 7th of September at Apex Oval at 12:20pm. If you can get down for the big dance, please try to get behind our boys. It is quite the achievement to get to a grand final, of a town of only 2,000 people, compared to the towns they are up against, with populations of 40,000 or more.
I couldn’t be prouder of our little town and the boys in this side who have mostly all grown up playing junior league for Nyngan Tigers, I’m more than hopeful the boys will bring it home! Go the MIGHTY TIGERS!
